Times of India in top 10 for New Zealanders

A couple of things caught my eye in Hitwise‘s latest New Zealand newsletter.

The first is that nzherald.co.nz made it to number 10 on the list of online department stores:

Top 10 Shopping and Classifieds – Department Stores based on Visits for December 2009

1.    Amazon.com                      www.amazon.com 28.27%
2.    The Warehouse – New Zealand     www.thewarehouse.co.nz 21.92%
3.    3 Deals                         www.3deals.co.nz 10.36%
4.    amazon.co.uk www.amazon.co.uk 5.65%
5.    Dealaday                        www.dealaday.co.nz 3.74%
6.    Farmers                         www.farmers.co.nz 3.64%
7.    Snatchadeal                     www.snatchadeal.co.nz 2.27%
8.    6 Shooter                       www.6shooter.co.nz 2.22%
9.    Kmart New Zealand               www.kmart.co.nz 1.84%
10.   NZ Herald Shopping              shopping.nzherald.co.nz 1.48%

The second is that The Times of India came in at number 9 on this list of print-based media websites New Zealanders visit:

Top 10 News and Media – Print websites ranked by Visits – Week ending 20 March 2010

1.    The New Zealand Herald      www.nzherald.co.nz 30.73%
2.    Stuff                       www.stuff.co.nz 26.77%
3.    The New York Times          www.nytimes.com 1.93%
4.    Sydney Morning Herald       www.smh.com.au 1.04%
5.    Guardian.co.uk www.guardian.co.uk 1.02%
6.    Daily Mail                  www.dailymail.co.uk 1.02%
7.    The Press                   www.stuff.co.nz/thepress 0.89%
8.    The Dominion Post           www.stuff.co.nz/dominionpost 0.83%
9.    The Times of India          timesofindia.indiatimes.com 0.68%
10.   Auto Trader New Zealand     www.autotrader.co.nz 0.64%

And the third is a question: when and how did New Zealanders start switching on to the Daily Mail?

    Hey Julie

Maybe the Times India link might have something to do with the Jane Campion story?

Although that was a month earlier. Perhaps Kiwis liked what they saw with the site!

    Cheers

You may be right, Greer. It was only one week’s worth of figures, so not much to draw a conclusion from, but interesting nonetheless.
