This is the blog of Julie Starr. I write about the news business and consult on newsroom integration and change projects.
I am currently working on...
* Newsroom change management and web-and-print development for Fairfax Media NZ.
* Media liaison for Webstock 2012. It's going to be another great conference: here's the speaker list. Email me if you'd like to interview one of these smart people. (We'll do our best depending on everyone's availability.) julie@allaboutthestory.com.

Knocking the Fieldays Exhibitor into shape
It’s an awesome process to transform a space set up for teaching into a fully fledged newsroom for four days a year. We don’t have much kit. Content management system? Pah! say the beancounters to that.
So we jack files about the place, copy and recopy files, tweak and tease and talk to each other non-stop to make sure we’re all working, not toe-stepping, and getting what we need to do the next thing. Think tincans, putty, wire and tape. That’s the feel of our makeshift newsroom.
But by crikey we’re getting through some work and I’m not alone at being slightly chuffed with our new layout, paper stock, front page and overall ‘wow, that’s a tidy production’-ness. (Pics to come)
So here’s to the Wintec Fieldays Exhibitors contributors. You rock. Two more days to go.
You can see some of our stories online at a new (work in progress) website www.mediarts.net.nz, where we are starting to showcase student work and post stories about Wintec, what our graduates are doing and community events that we think are worth getting involved with.
Hope to see you there more often as time goes on and we get more of our content and ideas up there.
