Games websites see 12.5c growth in NZ visitors


The number of New Zealanders visiting games websites rose 12.5 per cent in the past year, according to Hitwise.

The web traffic monitoring company said games websites accounted for 3 per cent of all internet visits in New Zealand – higher than in Australia (2.6pc) and the UK (2.3pc).

There has also been a noticeable drop in downstream traffic from the
Entertainment – Games industry to the online Shopping and Classifieds -
Video and Games industry of 28.9%, comparing April 2009 and April 2008.
This suggests there are untapped opportunities for retailers to monetise
gaming content.

Games content can also help marketers improve website ‘stickiness’.
According to Hitwise, users spent 15.5% more time on average on games
websites (11 minutes 56 seconds) compared to all other websites (10
minutes 20 seconds) during April 2009.
