The reason why recruiters want a Word version is so they can put it into their database and scan for keywords. A pdf is best when you know your CV is going direct to the hiring manager.

Make sure you use a standard Windows font in Word documents so that the pagination is not scrambled.

Oh cool, look forward to reading about it! I've sent off for a quote from a design place in Hams, so I'll see what comes back from that :) http://www.vo2.co.nz/

HNY to you too! Thanks, glad you like it. I'm going to write a post soon about the various steps I went through to get here. Lots of work, as it turns out, but kinda fun anyway. Not surprised you're picking up readers, I like your blog. Long may it continue!

Hiya Julie, HNY!
I very much like what you've done with the place - and will have to come and have a chat to you about the whole process of transfering like this. I'm going well with my bloggin and have built up a readership now. It's amazing where the comments come from! Both online, in person and through FB.

Hi Mark,

Computers now come standard with pdf readers and they'd be standard in any corporate environment too.

Also, it's free and quick to download the Adobe reader so I can't think of any reason why a prospective employer wouldn't be able to open a pdf.

Anyone else got any thoughts on that?

I'd be inclined to send the pdf and include a note in the email suggesting if they have trouble opening it to get back to you, and maybe including the link to the free Adobe download.

I suppose if you know the guy who's going to read it is a Luddite, you could choose to send the Word doc instead (and make sure you save it in a pre-2007format in case they don't have Office 2007). Or you could send both formats.

Great blog. I've always wondered whether it'd be worth having a digital CV.

I did think of converting my CV in Word to a PDF but didn't because I know not all computers have software that can read PDFs. What do you think?
